The Clinical Research Support Center Manager position will manage and facilitate operations at the Clinical Research Support Center (CRSC) at the University of Minnesota.  The CRSC is a new "one-stop shop" for investigators to connect with content experts from cross-functional service groups in a single location convenient to investigators and staff.  The CRSC manager role will oversee the CRSC operations including the service group collaborations, processes, systems, and facility to ensure that the CRSC is fully functional; driven through efficient and collaborative processes; and delivering high quality services to researchers and research support staff.  Reporting to the Clinical Translational Research Services Associate Director, the CRSC Manager will be accountable to a cross-functional Steering Team and will lead the CRSC dedicated staff.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

CRSC Operations Management [Internal 70% of Time]

The CRSC Manager is responsible for ensuring CRSC operations, including: customer experience, service function coordination, process flows, staffing/coverage, system & tools, and facility management.

  • Ensure CRSC delivers services in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with represented service groups to drive CRSC operations.
    • Drive engagement with CRSC staff and service group representatives. Communicate and drive shared priorities; discuss operations; and promote open and honest communications.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Oversee all CRSC processes to ensure efficient and responsive process flows for researchers, research staff and CRSC service groups.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure that the CRSC has appropriate staff coverage by represented service groups.
  • Oversee CRSC systems and tools to ensure they support operational needs.
  • Drive a satisfactory CRSC customer experience (researcher, research support staff).
  • Manage CRSC customer facing promotional and educational materials.
  • Manage CRSC facility/space.

 

CRSC Oversight and Steering Team Engagement [Internal 20%]

The CRSC Manager will be responsible for overseeing CRSC performance.  CRSC manager will be accountable to the CRSC Steering Team (comprised of representatives across the service groups CTSI, OVPR, MHeath).

  • Track and evaluate CRSC performance against agreed upon criteria and metrics.
  • Gather input and guidance from the CRSC Steering Team through facilitating meetings and providing regular updates on CRSC performance, priorities/initiatives, and direction.
  • As needed, escalate any CRSC operational issues to Steering Team.
  • Represent the CRSC in interactions with Departments, University groups, Health Systems Partners/Affiliates and the CTSA network.

 

CRSC Dedicated Staff Leadership [Internal 10%]

  • Oversee CRSC Receptionistand any CRSC additional positions as added.

 

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications [Research Project Specialist 3 Level]

        Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree with at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, including significant experience in clinical research OR an Advanced degree (Master's) with eight (8) years of relevant experience.

        Knowledge of clinical research regulations and guidance, the Code of Federal Regulations, ICH GCP, and HIPAA regulations. 

        Demonstrated effectiveness as a team leader.

        Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the institution/organization, including senior level administrators, faculty, and staff. 

        Proficient in working across functions and organizations. Able to drive action and progress in positions of indirect authority.

        Ability to work independently, make decisions, and problem solve.  Strong project/process management, prioritization, planning, and organizational skills.

        Excellent communication skills written and verbal.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with clinical and/or translational research processes - preferably in an academic research setting.
  • Experience working in a CTSI/CTSA.
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Professional, or qualified to sit for the certification exam.
  • Experience in developing a new program/service or expanding an existing program/service.
  • Customer-service focused mind-set. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leader successful at driving accountability, motivating and engaging staff.
