Position Overview: 

The Service Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing new generator service business and providing account management and developing on-going business relationships with end users.  The key focus for the person in this role is to differentiate our products from the competition, and develop competitive proposals to win business.  Knowledge in Generators, Power Equipment, and Transfer Switches, is a must.

Reporting Relationship:  The Service Sales Manager reports to the VP of Sales & Marketing.


  • Responsible for sales of service for industrial generators from 30 kilowatts 2 megawatts in size.
  • Prospect new leads and new business relationships with end-users for the purpose of developing and maintaining relationships that lead to growing and profitable service contract sales.
  • Price out and develop compelling proposals to end users on service contracts.
  • Track open opportunities and pro-actively follow-up to improve close rate.
  •  Participate in industry groups that potential customers attend to assist in relationship development, discover new opportunities, and be seen as an expert in the field.
  • Strong emphasis on proactive communication with Sales Management, informing of any important developments with vendors or customers
  • Accurately forecast expected service sales on a monthly basis
  • Involve Sales Management in customer visits when practical
  • Maintain excellent records, manage receipts and expense reports, and submit to accounting department on a monthly basis
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds



  • Knowledge of generators, power equipment, and switchgear, and familiarity with complementary and competitive products
  • Solid computer skills with experience in using Microsoft Outlook and office products

Personal Attributes

  • Knowledge of key customers and markets for generators; to include data centers, utility, telecom, hospitals and medical facilities, nursing homes, schools, and retail;  and their hardware needs and buying behavior.
  • Strong prospecting skills and ability to break through potential customer rejections
  • Desired knowledge of multiple types of Industrial Generators and familiarity with complementary and competitive products
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Ability to learn and/or experience with the Sage 100 ERP system
  • Ability to learn and/or experience with CRM systems
  • Solid computer skills with experience in using Microsoft Outlook and Office products

Education and Experience:

  • 4 year college degree or equivalent, technical degree preferred but not required
  • 5 years of proven experience in a technical sales role
  • Previous service sales experience desired
