Position Overview: 

The Production Manager is responsible for building and maintaining an efficient and quality minded team.  They are accountable for ensuring that all finished goods are produced as scheduled to meet customer expectations.  This includes making decisions to support our client's business goals, and in partnership with shift supervisors, managing a team of up to 100 team members per day.  The Production Manager will achieve safe, quality and efficient results and ensure a smooth hand-off between shifts.


  • Set clear performance expectations with direct reports and hold team members accountable.
  • Drive Teamwork across Production Floor and between shifts and promote a positive working environment.
  • Work with employees to establish strong relationships and trust.
  • Hold regular 1:1 and team meetings with direct reports and facilitate annual performance reviews.
  • Coach and manage performance of supervisors and team members.  This includes recognizing a job well done and/or addressing performance issues in a timely manner against the Core Values. 
  • Provide guidance to staff by being present on the Production floor and be available for questions and troubleshooting.
  • Team development (hiring, coaching, evaluating and training).
  • Ensure all timekeeping systems are managed.
  • Drive a culture of Safety First by taking a proactive approach to hazard awareness and eliminations.
  • Responsible for all safety practices on shift including team member compliance in proper personal protective equipment and are adherence to proper ergonomics performance.
  • Ensure all First Report of Injury and Near Miss forms are completed and work with Safety Manager on investigations and issues are resolved
  • Hold Supervisors accountable to these expectations and the training/education on safety practices for all Production staff. 
  • Be engaged in changes to process or regulation as it relates to promoting a safer working environment.
  • Hold team of direct reports accountable to prioritizing quality and "doing it right the first time" over throughput.
  • Drive productivity by adequately staffing teams and actively looking for opportunities to improve as a team.
  • Ensure critical information is passed between shifts and business partners to support business goals and initiatives.
  • Directly supervise all Production team members to meet or exceed productivity goals for all finished goods and processes.
  • Communicate Production targets and goals frequently.  Investigate root cause to poor performance and work to solve.
  • Analyze data and reports indicating quality and productivity issues. 
  • Ensure new and existing team members are trained in accordance with quality expectations and procedures. 
  • Be an engaged problem solver by partnering with Quality department and other employees to effectively address issues as they arise. 
  • Hold team member accountable to quality metrics and corrective actions as issues arise.
  • Audit reporting and paperwork to ensure accuracy in finished good reporting.
  • Hold all Production employees to following ILLUME Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Plan daily departmental personnel needs based on workload by working with temporary agencies to ensure staffing needs are met.
  • Assist Senior Production Manager in managing workload by coordinating workforce and communicating priorities and crucial information with key partners.
  • Actively support continued growth by effective cost control and cost reduction programs, supporting new programs and timelines as they emerge.
  • Devise, socialize and implement solutions to drive inefficiencies out of current processes.
  • Ensure proper hand off between shifts and Supervisors by composing shift reports and communicating any pertinent information
  • Hold all-staff meetings at least once per week to ensure proper communication reaches all Production employees.  
  • Developing a continuous improvement mindset that constantly looks for better ways to do things, measured by improvements in job labor hours.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in running a variety of production departments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading, motivating and assessing talent in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask and manage a variety of projects and people.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create KPI's, adhere to, and add value in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Able to take direction and quickly take action.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to drive for clarity in ambiguous situations. 
  • Able to life up to 30 pounds.
