Our client is a commercial private lender specializing in lending to both builders and rehab professionals. Our client works with borrowers whose complicated credit situations or need for speed preclude their working with a bank. They aim for underwriting decisions on days, rather than weeks. Our client started commercial lending in July 2017 and has already achieved 10x annual growth because of this. They are undergoing rapid growth and are seeking a highly motivated Director of Finance to work hand in hand with our company founder to oversee many of the financial operations of the company.  


Background Experience:

  • 5+ years of finance experience in the Private Equity or Real Estate Investment space.
  • A solid understanding of partnership and fund accounting.
  • MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated.



  • Work with company founder to obtain new lines of credit for our growing lending business.
  • Manage all existing liabilities and banking relationships.
  • Oversee all aspects of bookkeeping, accounting and investor reporting, including supervising work of company bookkeeper and external accounting firm.
  • Manage disbursement of funds and cash flows for all company investment vehicles.
  • Tracking of investment performance vs initial projections.
  • Investor reporting.


  • Improve integration and syncing of data between multiple financial systems in the company including:
    • Quickbooks
    • IMS - Investor portal and reporting (
    • The Mortgage Office - Loan servicing (
  • Oversee management of company IT infrastructure using external consultants




  • Track record of establishing borrowing relationships with banks and other sources of capital.
  • Strong connections in the local banking community.
  • Strong understanding of private equity finance principals including waterfalls (preferred returns, carried interest etc.).
  • Strong Excel modelling skills for financial forecasting and cashflow scenario modelling.
  • Understanding of accounting software (Quickbooks or other).
  • Knowledge of Argus financial modelling software for commercial real estate is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Experience with financial software selection, migration and implementation is a plus.
  • Experience with commercial mortgage lending is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask, problem solve and efficiently manage time in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong at communicating and relationship building.
  • Team player with the ability to thrive in a structured and competitive environment.
  • Experience managing financial staff.
